HOME – The Living Room

It was important that everyone realized that we aren’t just decorating a space based on what we feel is pretty. We are telling the story of your life so that everyone else can feel warm and welcome in your space. Soulless decorating is not something I am passionate about at all. However, turning your goals, passions and style into a livable art form, I’m totally down for that!
Allow me to introduce you to The Living Room and its inhabitants. (Special thanks to Wendy Townley for writing up each persona and Dana Damewood for the wonderful photos.)
“Young professionals Natalie and John unwind and relax in the living room, be it on an uneventful Tuesday evening or a lazy Sunday afternoon. The space is also ideal for entertaining a few friends over cocktails, but also picture perfect for a morning cup of coffee while perusing The New York Times. Natalie most enjoys cozying up to her desk. She takes a temporary pass from her iPad, writing thank-you notes to family and friends.”
This was their vibe:
We knew we were going to have this amazing graffiti print couch from A&A Textiles to work with in this room, as well as the large abstract painting by Kim Reid Kuhn. Therefore, we wanted the rest of the palette to remain more neutral (the paint color is Sherwin Williams, Eider White) and layer in a ton of texture to help balance the bold elements.
The wonderful art you see in this image from left to right: Andrew Johnson, Christina Renfer Vogel, Andrew Johnson, and Dana Damewood.
The glossy white chair is from local furniture store Allens Home. The two fabric lamps and coffee tables are by Arteriors Home which are available through Birdhouse. The amazing leather shag rug was from Overstock and only $300 for an 8′x10′! Pillows are available through Birdhouse.
Val Drobaugh (stylist from The Foundary), Beth and myself went on numerous thrifting missions to find a ton of accessories to make each space feel warm and inviting. Val styled this bookshelf with layered texture and a hint of yellow to mimic the yellow in both the large painting and the couch fabric.
We were thrilled with the overall look of The Living Room. It read classic and sophisticated, but not stuffy. We hope you agree.
