Press – Since the Beginning

With our recent Houzz tour last week, we started thinking about the beginning of Birdhouse and the decent amount of press we have received. We feel very fortunate for the validation and the exposure since we know getting your work and your name out there is the key to steady growth. Wendy Townley, who has helped us navigate our brand, has been harping on us to get a Press Page up for a while now (it is on our to-do list!). In lieu of an actual page just yet, we thought we’d reminisce about the blurbs over the past couple of years.

1. Shelterpop: “Jessica’s Budget Kitchen Remodel”

September 3, 2009. I got to chat about our old house. Yes, the “Field Club” house on our portfolio was our old house and where it all started. Find that article HERE.

2. Desire to Inspire: “when your budget is bird feed”

August 12, 2009. It was pretty fun to see our house/my designs on one of my favorite blogs. That bathroom with the chalkboard door (that was our master bathroom) has now made the rounds in an amazing way. Countless blogs, tumblrs, and currently added to almost 7,200 idea boards on Houzz. Find that post HERE.

3. The Reader: “Birdhouse in Your Soul”

November 2010. A feature about our interior design and the Collectible. Unfortunately, we don’t still house furniture and accessories for sale at the Collectible, but we are working with local photographers, etc. on rentals. (More on that to come!) Find that article HERE.

4. The Foundary: Designer’s Gallery and Curated Event

February 2011. We were thrilled to be asked by The Foundary to be their first Designer curator. Above is a video they shot – I’m a little embarrassed by how cluttered our space looks, it’s a little sleeker now – and HERE is a little Q & A.

5. The New York Times: “In Omaha, From Train Yards to Playground”

June 2011. This was one of the coolest things to ever happen to us. We made it into The Old Gray Lady, and it even had my name in print! To say our parents were proud, would be an understatement. My mother-in-law even had it framed for my birthday and it hangs on the wall in our studio. HERE is the online version.

The story behind the story. One day a woman came into our studio/shop and said she thought our space was cool. A few weeks later a freelance reporter from The New York Times called us and said they were running a story on the North Downtown neighborhood of Omaha and that they wanted to feature us. I did a short phone interview. It was months and months and nothing happened. I thought the story was killed. Then, finally we got a follow up call from the reporter and she also said a photographer would be coming by. The photographer came by and then a few weeks later the story ran in print and on their website. AMAZING.

6. Omaha World Herald: “Your Style. Defined.”

August 2011. It was fun to chat with OWH about style and decorating. It was also fun to see it in print in our local paper. Read an archived version of the article HERE.

7. Omaha Home Magazine: The Cover, “The Gallery of HOME”, “At Home”

January 2012. We made the cover of the local magazine with our HOME event in December 2011 as well as a feature on that event and an article on our house. Very fun. Find it all HERE.

8. Inspired Home Omaha:  ”Girly Modern Style”

January 2012. Our condo design from the Magic at Midtown Designer Showcase we participated in was featured and the living room design broken down in the January/February issue. Take a peek at that HERE.

Those are some of the shout-outs over the years. I hope you don’t mind us saying, we will be delighted to share more along the way!

I am SO PROUD of how far Birdhouse has come since that awkward coffee date at Scooter’s. Remember that afternoon? :-) You are a dream to work with, and I remind you that this, my friends, is only the beginning of even more great things.
